Introduction

"The BIHR Annual Conference 2007 was both a stimulating and inspiring event. No account of the conference can quite capture the atmosphere in the room, but it was one of the most vibrant human rights events I've participated in"   Jon Snow, Newscaster and Chair of the BIHR Annual Conference 2007

The purpose of this exciting one day conference is to stimulate fresh thinking about human rights.

It will examine how human rights are portrayed and how we can challenge perceptions that are negative or based on myth and misunderstanding. It will look at the role of a range of actors - public, third sector and wider civil society - in promoting a new image of human rights that shows their value and relevance for everyone.

Delegates will have the opportunity to engage in the "live" human rights debates of our times, and look at the vital role of the arts, media, campaigns and wider civil society action.

The aims of this conference are to:

Finding new fresh ways to understand and communicate about human rights is essential if individuals and groups are to be successful in using human rights to benefit us all, and particularly the most vulnerable and marginalised people in society.
